With acupuncture, we elicit your body’s innate power to find balance.
The ancient practice of acupuncture originated in China around 3,000 years ago. Acupuncture consists of placing thin needles at specific points of energy reservoirs to tap into the body’s qi. The needles are placed at certain depths to invigorate the nervous system and signal the immune system. Insertion of needles creates micro-trauma and vasodilation, therefore increasing blood flow to your organs and tissues. Acupuncture can treat both acute and chronic issues, helping a wide variety of issues. Acupuncture helps with pain relief, reproductive health, mental health, neurological health, digestive health, respiratory health, cardiovascular health and much more.
Add-on
Moxibustion is a therapy used in conjunction with acupuncture that consists of burning an herb called Ai Ye, Folium Artemisiae, commonly known as mugwort. Ai Ye is burned on or near the skin at an acupuncture point and has a warming effect on the body’s acupuncture meridians and underlying tissues. Moxibustion has a therapeutic effect of stimulating qi and blood circulation, therefore reducing pain by moving stagnant qi and blood away from painful areas. Because of its warming effect, moxibustion can also reduce coldness and dampness in the body, therefore benefiting fertility, reducing arthritic pain in joints, and boosting energy.
Add-on or Treatment
Cupping involves placing special suction cups on the skin to create therapeutic effects. Commonly, the suction is caused by the negative pressure of fire cupping, suction cupping, moving cupping, or flash cupping. Cupping can be used to treat pain caused by stagnant blood, dispel toxins and pathogens in the body, improve mental health, and much more. The inflammation and bruising post-cupping activates your body’s immune system to signal tissues to repair and heal.
Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing technique that utilizes a tool to stroke your skin with pressure. Gua sha is performed in a quick, one-way motion to create petechiae. Gua sha improves qi and blood circulation and breaks up scar tissue in the fascia. The encouraged healthy flow of qi and blood enhances the body’s immune system to heal.
Tui Na is an ancient Chinese system of body work that translates to “push and pull”. Tui Na involves applying pressure along acupuncture points and meridians to bring the body back into balance. Tui Na techniques consist of rolling, tapping, and pressing which stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory system. Tui Na also activates the parasympathetic nervous system to help the body with pain and relaxation.
E-stim is a modern tool of acupuncture that enhances the benefits of traditional acupuncture. Electrodes are placed on acupuncture needles and an electrical current is sent through the needle to the desired acupuncture point. The acupuncture point is activated and sends signals to your nerves and brain, releasing neurotransmitters to improve pain, inflammation, and mental health.
